LEARNING THE GOVERNMENT DESIGN SYSTEM

MY ROLE: Individual project

Follow me on my journey as I learn the GDS design system and principles.

Design principles.
Using the gov.uk framework, I started by getting familiar with their design principles.
Getting familiar with the UI kit.
After reading about the design principles on the GOV.UK website, I decided to try and replicate a page using the UI Kit available on Figma community.
Issues so far
The kit isn't up to date so I've been using the inspect tool to look at the CSS/HTML code to try and replicate the page.
Archetype
Based on secondary research, I developed this archetype to help me understand the type of user that would use the website for travel advice.
Accessibility
Can the site technically be used by anyone?

Using the WCAG 2.2 guidelines, the website generally did well on accessibility. I only determined a minor error with text spacing and created the altered version of how the text should look (see below).
Inclusivity
Although similar to accessibility, inclusivity is more about making sure everyone is welcome to use the site.

Content - simple language - avoiding jargon. Good readability.
Visual design - simple, clear, neutral. Universally used icons.
Multiple device capability- designed for multiple screen sizes.

Project ongoing!
This is my progress so far… keep following to see how I develop and learn!
